I really like Think2Master's approach to 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles. You can tackle the whole thing, or the back has one of 9 letters corresponding to the quadrant (or nonant) that it sits in, and you can solve the puzzle as 9 mini puzzles. It is then geared towards your skill and experience. It lets someone who is not so skilled get the pleasure of solving a more complex puzzle. Now, all that would be less enjoyable if you didn't have a good picture. In this case, we have a fantastic scene on the Seine, and there are 10 smaller images in circles around the periphery. This gives a lot of variation, and makes it easier for the beginner/intermediate puzzler to solve.
