I bought 6 pieces (3 sets) for a 9 year old kid's birthday which was held at an outdoor amusement park in the heat. They worked great. There were no manufacturer defects, no leaks, and the fabric appeared to sew well. In terms of height, 8-9 year olds are really the youngest I would choose. Small children can wear them, of course, but they start to feel uncomfortable. My skinny 5 year old couldn't wear it comfortably and the straps went too far over his shoulder to make it impossible to put it on any further. a through tube and several places to attach a chest strap. The main downside is the drying of this thing. Haven't figured out how to make it completely dry inside yet. Because of this, I'm not sure how long it will be before he becomes uncomfortable internally. For party use I didn't want to rub them down with soap as I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get rid of the soapy taste. I tested one by simply rinsing it off quickly with water. The taste of plastic was almost imperceptible, and it could have been that new smell. I felt great handing them out to friends to use during the party.
