Review on πŸ”’ Secure and Convenient Tot-Lok 9 Piece Loc Assembly (1): Childproof Your Space with Ease by Kate Johnson

This is an old model - get a new one.

This is an older model of the "Tot-Loc" Safety First magnetic locks. They are much more difficult to install than newer models. This type requires drilling a hole with a 9/32" bit halfway through the back of each cabinet door to install magnets for the lock, while newer magnets have better magnets and only require drilling for screws. Another change is that you can adjust the position of the newer ones after you've installed them by loosening the screws and sliding the lock to where you need it. This model doesn't have this function, so you need to measure it correctly the first time. Another big difference is that the new key is smaller (so it's easier to lose) but it has a hole so it can be hung on a hook. If you don't mind the installation, any model will do. Safer than simple latches that fit onto handles or that are depressed after partially opening the cabinet. My only complaint about them is that they only come with one key. If you are installing more than a few locks I would recommend buying more small packs than one large one so you have more keys Other installation tips for this model: The instructions say nothing about pre-drilling holes for the screws. This is fine for softwood, but for hardwood cabinets I recommend using a 5/64" bit to start the holes. Drill a large hole first, then insert the lock and use it as a guide to drill the pilot holes. You don't have a 9/32" bit for the big hole, you can use a 1/4" bit and wiggle around a bit to get some play. The magnets are exactly 1/4 inch wide. Just be careful not to drill too deep as the supplied guide will not fit a 1/4" drill bit.
