Let me start by saying that I've been a tool and mold maker for a long time so I'm a bit into precision. That being said, I immediately wanted to know if the block would tighten the rule and if it would stick because a lot of people seem to have had issues with that. It does. Next, I checked the etch accuracy from the beginning usually. The engravings must be almost accurate, but can be slightly offset from the leading edge. They were dead. The next test was the accuracy of the 90⁰ and 45⁰ angles. I found a tiny little inaccuracy, so I went to investigate - found that the ruler had about 1/32 inch of lateral play in the groove, which can result in a degree error of a few minutes. As a toolmaker, that can be devastating. But it's not intended for use in a machine shop making airplane parts, but for woodworking. I doubt the fence on my table saw is that close. If you honestly think you can safely drive a saw through a tree, you should disregard it. This tool is great for the DIY enthusiast or carpenter. I can recommend it without hesitation.
