The conversion from optical worked well and now I can still use the monitor for.
This thing actually saved an old monitor. I have an early plasma panel where the original digital circuit board burned out. However, it still had a few usable ports, including a basic headphone audio jack. Converting from optical worked well and now I can still use the monitor for something useful even though the HDMI ports are gone. If you get one, be sure to check your settings to change the sound if needed. (For example, mine was set to 5.1, which definitely wouldn't work. A simple change in settings fixed it.)
