Review on CURT 13240 Trailer Receiver Hyundai by David Will

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Affordable easy installation!

For connecting bike carriers or towbar carriers for road travel. Arrived quickly. The box arrived crumpled with a hook sticking out of the corner, but what do you expect from a heavy, sharp metal object in a large empty box. never mind The bolts/washers/instructions were taped very well onto the hitch itself to avoid getting lost and falling out of the box. hats off for that! I remembered several reviewers claiming to lubricate the exhaust mounts with WD-40 and after that the two rearmost mounts popped out immediately with minimal effort. I also remembered that reviewers had indicated that you had to remove the panels under the bumper on either side, so I just removed them. I didn't have to jack up the car. I did it in my flat driveway. The only tools I used were a flat head screwdriver for the plastic trim rivets and a 3/4" 17mm socket for tightening the hitch mounting bolts. I had a piece of old carpet that I had spread out set aside, with the hitch just below where it should have been. I pulled the exhaust pipes down a bit with my knee and slid the hitch bracket over the exhaust pipes where it was tight. I attached the driver's side with one bolt, then all the bolts on the passenger side .Then I finished installing the remaining screws on the driver's side.I reinstalled the two exhaust pipe brackets and replaced the plastic fairing. The whole thing took less than 20 minutes with minimal effort. For those who don't have the skills and basic , you can do this. Don't pay the store $100 to get one of these things to install. It's really very simple.
