I recently bought a couple of mechanical pencils, most have metal handles that I didn't want to rub against each other so I was looking for a custom sleeve solution. These leather cases were the best deal I found. They come in sets of 3 individually wrapped in plastic and all packed in a large plastic bag. Once you get them you will find that they are quite stiff which makes it not easy to use at first, especially if you try to use them with a pencil or pen that is not smooth. I recommend using a smooth pen or pencil to separate the sides first, then pressing down on the edges to separate them further. This will flex the skin a bit and allow for the insertion of pins that don't slide well on the skin when rubbed. Here's my method: 1. With one hand, I squeeze the tip of the sleeve so it opens, and then with the other hand, insert the pencil about a third of its length. Then I turn the sleeve inside out, mouth up, and now, with the hand that inserted the pen, press the bottom edge of the sleeve. This allows the pencil to fall inward under its own gravity. By choosing how far you squeeze the sleeve at the end, you can also control how far the pencil can go. To take out the pencil, I put the sleeve neck on the table, squeeze it with both hands and lift it up, releasing the pencil. I came up with this approach after struggling to remove a pencil that I had inserted too deeply and couldn't reach my fingertips through the narrow hole in my sleeve. This process can be a bit awkward at first, but after a few days the sleeves will remember the shape of the pins and will also open more easily when squeezed. I like that these sleeves are long (6.5 inches) so you can hold longer pens in them than usual. For example, you might be holding a 6-inch pen like the Pacific Arc Chromagraph. I think they will work well for most pens as well unless they are unusually thick. At first glance I wasn't sure if it was real leather, but after some use it was clear that it was leather. I like that the skin does not have a specific smell. Hope these sleeves last a long time. Good product.
