All I know is that I've seen the same overheating and flickering issues on countless forums. If you need a reliable laptop for school or work, I recommend putting your money elsewhere. I had the opportunity to rent a Fujitsu laptop and I really enjoyed it. I've also heard good things about Asus and Acer products. Good luck on your tablet/laptop hunt! (I bought i5, 8GB)
