Fun projector for a dark room. Wi-Fi connection is intermittent.

I didn't know what to expect at this price point so I was impressed by how well this worked for the price! It clearly lacks some of the features, clarity etc of more expensive projectors, but for a fun little projector in a totally dark room it's fine for children's cartoons, games or sports. I have a feeling that with projectors, "amazing" doesn't really start until you've spent $1,000+. For anything worth putting in your living room when guests are away, you'll probably have to shell out over $500 for a decent picture. But in terms of cost, I'd rather spend under $100 on this rather than $300 for something better. Let's fix the shortcomings right away: Screen mirroring (over Wi-Fi) is choppy. It wasn't my Wi-Fi because playback on the phone was smooth. On screen, it would freeze for a split second every few seconds, making it impossible to view action sequences, car chases, etc. There seems to be something about the way it's being mirrored from your phone onto the projector that it can't continue, causing playback to pause. I will say that setting up Wi-Fi screen mirroring on Android was easier than I thought. Let's hope it's safe through their proxy. The device must be level so that the image is not distorted. This means that the projector needs to be in the middle/upper part of the room to display the image in front of you. Finding ways to do this in a room can be a creative journey. The device is small and light, so you can easily attach a shelf to the wall for it. Otherwise, be prepared to figure out how to use bookshelves, boxes stacked on desks, etc - that sounds awful. I know it's probably not intended for use without speakers or a soundbar, but even at 2ft from the projector you can't hear dialogue clearly. Sources like Roku, DVD players are probably better than Youtube etc where audio quality varies but plan on using an external speaker for backup. I'm talking about the hot danger zone. I could barely lift the connector to move it after running the projector for just a few minutes. I would not want to leave it unsupervised around children and would see it as a potential hazard in conjunction with combustible fabrics such as linen curtains etc. The advantage of this is the very low price. For the price you get a decent picture, which is great. I used it in a small dining room with light gray walls and projected the image about 5 or 6 feet wide. The picture looked sharper than I thought. actually to the point where I said "wow!" And that's playing videos from Youtube, even without Bluetooth! I don't have a DVD player or flash drive so unfortunately I couldn't get a picture of the picture quality of the video as I used my phone's screen mirror for the pictures. The photo I took is 5 to 6 feet tall and you can at least see the clarity of the projector's internal menu screen. I moved the projector back to get 9 or 10 feet even though my wall wouldn't project the entire image. The quality was noticeably worse, but still okay and not incredibly washed out for a sub-$100 projector. I don't think you would want friends to watch a movie from 8-10ft away as the clarity wouldn't be amazing. Maybe the screen would have made a difference, but I think it was made larger for the 5ft to 7ft screen size, which is like getting a bigger screen TV for less money and space. I will mention that the engine is noisy! Especially when you consider that you have to sit next to the car to avoid standing in front of a beam of light. The speaker is of poor quality and quiet, so the hum of the fan drowns out the sound. Maybe a soundbar would improve it, but that's like turning on a fan at medium speed in terms of projector noise. Overall, if you're not expecting $500 or more performance from this, you'll be impressed. You have to operate it in a dark room. Even dim light makes it bright. It's small and light enough to fit in a travel bag. Don't think of using it as a business PowerPoint projector as the text on it isn't that easy to read. But for movies it's ok. I'm not sure about the durability. it feels very fragile. A drop of it from a foot or two is unlikely to do the device any good. If the lamp fails (and I'm pretty sure you're not getting the ridiculously high number of hours claimed by the lamp), I doubt it'll be easy to find or replace. I'm buying this at this price point with the expectation that if the lamp/bulb fails, it's basically disposable. With the right expectations, it's a pretty cool little thing. I watched the chase scene from Bullitt, the 1989 major league film, part of Michael Jordan's last game when the Bulls beat the Utah Jazz, and the opening Gladiator fight scene while testing them. Everything looked fine. a little washed out but clean and crisp enough to enjoy.
