The Accucut trimmer is equipped with a measuring grid to align the papers and a clamp arm so the device can hold them while cutting. You need to hold the papers while squeezing the lever to make sure they don't move. The side of the machine with the exercise wheel has a plastic screen that the papers come out of. The edge of this sign corresponds exactly to the distance to the points indicated on the measuring lines on the frame. When you cut the paper, the edge of the sign will give a clear indication of where the paper will be cut. The wheel moves precisely along its edge, and the smooth mechanism allows you to cut pages with a simple forward motion. You also have the option to wheel the wheel over the paper again to touch up the edges if you didn't get them quite right. That begs the question of why you might have gotten it wrong. The answer also touches on the experience of those who thought the device was deflected by about 1/8 inch. First, the instructions are very bad. They show you six boxes, each with a picture, and don't really explain anything. In the picture corresponding to the movement of the blade mechanism, you can see how the palm rests on the right edge of the handle, pushing and pushing it forward. The device is spring loaded so the blade hangs over the paper feed slot. It has to be pushed down so that it touches the paper. It also slides down the rail so it needs to have enough play to make it run smoothly. If you take the handle and try to wiggle it from side to side, you'll find that it has enough play to do so. If you watch the blade area you will see that the blade can fall with a gap between itself and the plastic shield. On the other hand, you can't lean on it and push the blade past the shield, so you don't risk cutting the paper too short. If you press as shown on the instruction page, the blade will hit the screen as you glide across it, slicing with precision. If you don't press as directed, you may end up cutting a little less than intended. Another pass with more attention to blade position can fix everything. The big problem is that there is nothing instinctive about using it properly. Seems like you should just click and slide over it, nothing else to worry about. Unfortunately, pushing down as advertised might not be what users would be predisposed to, and reading instructions to slide something from end to end is ridiculous. If this trimmer is for personal use or less precise trimming, these things don't matter. I can't tell you how likely it is that you'll get everything right the first time. I'm left handed and aligning the right edge of my right palm by pressing down and sliding forward wasn't my inclination. It appears that the handle can be gripped while bending the thumb on one side and the pinky on the other. When used this way, there's a chance the blade won't move along the shield unless you perform a moderate clockwise rotation while pressing. If you're using your left hand, you're even more likely to have a gap and your bleed will make the paper larger than intended. On the other hand, with a trimmer edge on the left side, this trimmer can be used for left-handers. . By placing your left hand so that the left edge of your palm lines up with the left side of the handle, you can slide the blade forward and make a perfect cut. Aside from the small issue of the clip being on the other side, with a round blade it doesn't matter if you hold the blade assembly left or right. Right-handed flip blade cutters are strictly right-handed, making it much more difficult for left-handers to get clean cuts and will be impossible to flip. Unfortunately, there is no reference to left-handers in the operating instructions, which turns a possible advantage into a disadvantage for many users. If not, I can't blame you. It's reasonable to assume that the image means you have to push down and slide forward, and not literally do it with your palm placed exactly as shown. While the trimmer works as intended when used as intended, the company has no one but themselves to blame for the poor workmanship and instruction. The FAQ on the site (Why am I cropping less than the ruler shows?) doesn't say anything about it, and it seems the support team should be able to explain this to users. I didn't have to contact them but I suggest you read the other reviews to get a balanced opinion. I understand why there should be enough play to move the wheel smoothly and there would be no point in tightening everything to eliminate play. Unfortunately, the result is a great product that's easy to abuse.
