Works perfectly. For some daysโ€ฆ.

It works, but the software is faulty. When I first set it up, it was easy. No problems connecting everything in the house. Loved the parental controls as we had trouble controlling my son's internet usage. worked fine Within a few days. Then the parental controls I had installed on my son's computer started interfering with my wife's computer. That made me an unpopular person, to say the least. I checked the configuration and lo and behold, the router compressed everything into multiple "devices" each with multiple MAC addresses. Started digging deeper and found this was happening to most custom devices on the network. I do not know why. I decided it was my fault. So I turned off all the devices in the house and did a full factory reset of the router. With the router set up the way I wanted it and only the Mac connected to the wired Ethernet port, I started turning on one device at a time. With this one device connected, I verified that the MAC address and IP address matched on the router AND the device. Once I was sure they matched, I permanently assigned that IP address to ONLY that device. I've gone through and done this for every device in the house. Worked great. For some days. Then also *%@)! Thing. Even with IPs assigned, the Devices page shows everything in the house compressed into just a few "devices". I can no longer control access to individual devices. My wifi thermostat turns itself off every few days. You can no longer apply parental controls without disabling multiple devices. This product seemed too good to be true. I've been trying to find a way to contact Linksys about this, but I don't have time. I don't have time and I don't want any tech support telling me to read the manual, reset, blame my ISP, etc. Do yourself a favor, wait 'til they get the software for this thing for me force to go through the pain. It will do what they say, but only for a few days, and then you'll have to go through a long setup process all over again.

Pros
  • understandable even for the old ones
Cons
  • annoying
