As a lifelong Twilight rider, I bought something very similar from a police horse outfitter about 10-12 years ago. It wasn't the same LED as this product, although I think they called it LED, instead it was a flat blue light strip that glowed. It made your horse look more like he was auditioning for a role in the next TRON movie. Anyway, it was cutting edge technology back then and I liked the idea, but I really rarely used it because it required a 9 volt battery installed in a somewhat bulky velcro pouch attached to it. Despite being a very low voltage/low battery device, the 9V batteries just don't store well in a Florida barn and it was almost always dead or the battery exploded every time I reached for it. Therefore it was rarely used. I'm so glad I found this implementation of the same idea as it's a huge leap forward! I've only used it once but my first impression is that it does everything it says on the tin in terms of safety and ease of maintenance and use. The benefits are obvious and I agree with other reviewers in praising the product. However, I have a few suggestions to improve future versions of this product: 1) Charging ports should be covered with rubber plugs. I can only assume that this bib is definitely not machine washable and hand washing is probably risky. I'm not even sure it can withstand a real downpour. 2) All 3 attachment points of this bib are closed loops, the length of which is adjusted by moving the plastic tab. Although this method of making a bib is economical and simple, it limits attachment options. For example, if your harness has a center ring, you won't be able to use it (unless you want to add a bulky double ended buckle to the bib loop, which makes the length too long and can ring when riding). . I don't need a race number for training on my property. If I decide to ride after school, I have to completely undo my harness to add it before I go, not just snap the latch. The top loops present the opposite problem, they come with latches as opposed to the strap attachment which doesn't fasten. . As I use this bib with a dressage saddle I find that the buckles that are provided are too bulky to fit comfortably under the jockey flaps on my saddle where my deys are located and they will definitely make a dent in the saddle when I put it on keep using . Path. Again, due to the closed loop slide buckle design, buttons cannot be removed (unless you break them with bolt cutters) or added. Not without cutting and re-sewing the nylon straps. Luckily, I make a living repairing harnesses professionally, so that's not a problem for me. I will be replacing the Dee straps with Conway buckles as this is the best choice for modifying an existing design which I will be working with here. But I suggest to the manufacturer that in the future this bib be made with a standard prong buckle and perforated holes with spacers for ease of adding, removing, replacing and replacing broken fasteners. 3) The middle chest ring is small and looks a little fragile. It should be A) bigger/more significant and B) not a ring at all, but a triangle. The problem with using a tiny ring with a 1 inch wide nylon band is that the nylon can't lay flat on the metal. The nylon will be stressed as it crumples in the curve of the circle, and the thin metal ring will puncture through the nylon over time. I've seen it a thousand times. Did I mention that I repair dishes for a living? Notes to my fellow riders who are considering this purchase: 1) Buy it! You will be happy with that. Take this from someone who has a box full of reflective gear for their horse. I've tried them all and this is my new favorite. 2) The purple color I bought is actually daylight pink with pink nylon. never mind But it was bought for a horse boy to match the purple browband so I wasn't expecting pink. However, it's actually purple after dark, so I got over my OCD on this one. 3) It seems a few buyers mentioned in the reviews that the horse can't see the light. I do not agree. My horse definitely noticed it. We have a lot of wild rabbits in the neighborhood and the first time I rode this bib around the block at dusk my horse startled everyone. This is something he would normally never do as he is completely used to her. The light has definitely affected his field of vision and I would recommend anyone fitting their horse to a glowing bib in a familiar and controlled environment before venturing into the unknown. And the light is really brighter than expected. Once it was completely dark I could see from the saddle that he was clearly illuminating both sides of his face. Have fun everyone and stay healthy!
