November 6, 2022I really like the look of this coffee cup warmer. I like the color, the style, the controls, display, etc. I like the silicone cover that protects the hot plate when not in use. The packaging is nice. As far as function in keeping your coffee warm, I am a bit underwhelmed.Aesthetics aside, this is a coffee cup warmer, and I wanted to see how well it performs. I started by turning on the cup warmer and setting the temperature on the warmer to its highest setting, which is 176 degrees F. I then measured out 12 oz. of tap water and poured it into a borosilicate glass coffee cup. I microwaved the cup and water together so the glass would heat up as well and not affect the water temperature. I then measured the temperature several times with an instant read cooking thermometer before placing it on the hot plate and determined the water to be 167 degrees Fahrenheit. I then tested the temperature at regular intervals and here is what I found:@ 5 minutes: 161 degrees F@10 minutes: 158 degrees F@15 minutes: 155 degrees F@20 minutes: 152 degrees F@25 minutes: 149 degrees F@30 minutes: 147 degrees F@35 minutes: 142 degrees F@40 minutes: 140 degrees F@60 minutes: 137 degrees F@75 minutes: 137 degrees FAccording to the owner's manual, the temp setting of 176 degrees F is supposed to keep your liquid at a temp somewhere between 158 - 176 degrees F. I understand there are many variables that would affect performance, such as thickness of the vessel, flatness of the vessel bottom, vessel material, viscosity of the liquid etc. I did my best to account for these by using water in a thin-walled borosilicate glass cup that, while not completely flat, has a good amount of surface contact with the hot plate. Even with all of these factors being addressed, the warmer was only able to maintain a temp of 137 degrees F. For grins, I looked in my cupboard for a perfectly flat-bottomed coffee cup - I don’t have any, and I would guess many people do not.So when applying this performance to a realistic setting, how does it measure up? Well, for me, my coffee usually does not last that long in my coffee cup. I am usually done with my cup within 10-15 minutes or so, so the temperature would still be satisfactory for me. That said, I conducted this test in a temperature controlled environment where the ambient air temp is 68 degrees F. I do not think this warmer would hold up as well if I utilized it in my workshop, which is not heated and can get pretty cold. Unfortunately, the workshop is exactly where I would use a cup warmer.Overall, I am moderately pleased with this cup warmer, though I do not hold out any hope that it would allow me to savor my coffee in a colder environment. For this reason, it will be used in my office where it is always cozy.
