I took it right out of the box, put it in my printer and laptop and it didn't work . After a few tries it worked as expected and I haven't had any problems since. My initial problems could have been a laptop problem (because I keep my laptop on the docking station; it works when plugged into the docking station's USB port, but not the laptop's USB port for some reason) or a printer problem; I don't see why a simple cable should cause problems. I like the length of the cord because it gives me more freedom in planning my home office.
