My 10 year old has a 24 inch waist and a size 10/12 is too big. The elastic around the waist doesn't pinch at all. Instead, he has to tug on the drawstring to keep them from falling off, which also makes them less comfortable. My son is skinny but slightly below average for kids his age according to his size chart the last time we saw the doctor. Their length is also a bit long. With a long one, this isn't much of a problem as it gives room to grow. However the waist is too big and I don't think it will fit unless he gains significant size. Overall, I wouldn't recommend them for skinny kids. They're probably best suited for kids if their weight is slightly above average and the waist is slightly larger to activate the elastic for a more comfortable fit.
