I have an outdoor wireless security system that connects to cameras that have their antenna connected to the dashcam with a 1.5m USB cable. Unfortunately I needed a 20 foot cable to get the antenna in good reception range. The extension cable listed on the camera manufacturer's website was $50 and I didn't pay. So I bought a 15ft USB extension cable and plugged it in only to find the cameras kept turning on and off even though the power indicator showed 5 bars when it was turned on. I replaced this cable with a second one with the same result. In frustration, I researched what I could do to fix this and found that the USB only reliably receives or transmits a signal over 16ft 5in. If there are more, you will need an "active" USB cable to amplify the signal. Unfortunately the camera manufacturer couldn't explain this on their website! Anyway, this active cable was 1/5 the price and worked great! It's only been 48 hours. since install and no signal loss but I couldn't get 4 minutes. before, so I think the problem is solved!
