Review on πŸ–οΈ Walnut Hollow Crank Handle for Extruder by Doris Tran

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Decent hand extruder

The threads on my very old Kemper mini extruder are worn out and I wanted to replace it with another small hand extruder. The new versions are poorly made. The dies are thin and don't fit well in the barrel. It is difficult to apply enough pressure to force clay through a small keg when it is filled with hard clay. I installed a Makins extruder and the rod at the end is having a hard time rotating evenly. Starting/stopping a turn results in a lumpy extrusion. The Makins tool is very well made. The Walnut Hollow Extruder is quite durable and has higher performance than the Kemper tool. The crank makes it easier to apply pressure more evenly. The lugs are a little less smooth than the Kempers but much better than the Makins due to the rotating crank. The capacity is nice. It would be very difficult to push the clay through the matrices without a handle. Good selection of stamps. I used a very small wheel and tape with no trouble getting enough pressure to extrude. They offer a small expansion tip to make slightly larger extrusions, but dies are limited.

Pros
  • Reusable storage box prevents loss of washers or spare O-rings
Cons
  • New competition is here
