Worth every last penny.

This adapter was worth every single penny I spent. The cherry on top was the fact that it arrived the DAY OF ordering. As soon as it arrived, I unboxed it. Packaging was very straightforward, and there wasn't that much paper to dig through just to find the adapter itself (in fact, the only piece of paper I found was under the actual adapter, that's a bonus). It's entirely plug & play. I originally downloaded the drivers for this model from Startech's website, but plugging it in after installing those drivers (& rebooting, of course) didn't actually get the adapter to respond. I uninstalled said drivers, restarted, & plugged it back in. Windows found the driver that works with the adapter, and the display showed up! (sidenote: I did read a review stating that the driver is entirely invasive in the system; it runs on kernel level so it can provide an actual display, and elevates itself so it has a good priority to keep the display running smooth [though that's only an inference], as well as another stating that you could not uninstall the driver at ALL; that one's false, you uninstall it the same way as any other program)Speaking of latency / delay, there was literally none. Jumping from an Insignia USB to VGA adapter (via Fresco Logic IDDCX), I was instantly amazed by how much better this was; the Insignia adapter had so much delay on it that it was just unusable. Using the Startech adapter doesn't feel 100% native like a direct HDMI/DP connection to your computer, but it feels like it's just about 99% there, the ONLY complaint I've had about this adapter would be the screen tearing, but it's so minimal that it doesn't hurt the experience at all.I had very high hopes for this adapter, and Startech delivered. I would absolutely recommend this adapter to others.IT IS WORTH MENTIONING: if you do not have a very beefy computer (I personally don't), then the CPU & GPU usage does spike when you do anything through the monitor that the adapter is connected to. (roughly 15% CPU / 25% GPU dragging a window on my primary monitor, spikes up to 35-40% CPU / 40% GPU using the monitor through the adapter), though it is still very usable.

Pros
  • Compatible with both Windows and MacOS
Cons
  • Does not support HDR output
