Battery won't charge - charging error

I have an IRobot Roomba 707 and the original battery was getting old so I decided to buy a replacement battery after reading so many good reviews about the battery of this one brand had read. The battery arrived quickly and was fully charged, so after installing the iRobot I had the iRobot clean my living room and headed to work. After I get back from work, I notice that the iRobot is not connected to the docking station and the red battery is "dead" and is in the corner of the living room next to the charging station. I placed the iRobot on the docking station to charge and the error "Err 1" was displayed. After trying to charge a few times to no avail, I wiped the contacts on the iRobot with a damp paper towel, also removed the battery and cleaned the contacts on the battery to make sure they were all clean to make good contact, but after that Repeatedly cleaning the contacts, the battery still wouldn't charge. I put the original battery back into iRobot and it charges with no issues. I don't know if I received a defective battery or not, but apparently it didn't work on the iRobot Roomba 707.
