This is a $5 mouse pad
It was folded (unintentionally) in the box and the crease didn't go away after leaving it under heavy books for 3 days, but that's probably it what I get for buying a mouse for $5. pillow. The faux leather definitely creates good friction, so I wouldn't call it smooth. Love the colour, I bought the green and it's a deep taupe/green.
