Review on HyperX Cloud Alpha S - Ultimate PC Gaming Headset: 7.1 Surround Sound, Adjustable Bass, Dual Chamber Drivers & More in Blackout Design by Shane Jenkins

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The problem with the thin inner padding was fixed with the recently shipped thicker Hyperx ear pads

These were my first pair of HyperX headphones, overall very good with one major flaw that makes me not recommend them. I've only tried it with a PC and not a microphone, so I won't comment on that. Let's start with the good. The packaging is really nice, as are the materials that make up the headset. Everything feels nice and solid without being too heavy. Compared to the previous pair of fully closed earbuds, the HyperX Cloud Alpha Pro's sound is noticeably different (in a good way). It feels like the back is open. It was a bit strange to get used to at first, but once I got the hang of it, it was great. The sound produced is truly amazing for the price. The outer padding of the earcup is nice and soft, but heats up after a while as expected, not too unbearably so. Now, unfortunately, we have to come to a fatal error. I think it could be a dual chamber design, but the result is almost no internal padding between the speakers and your ears. I can't wear them for long periods of time without feeling very uncomfortable. After a while, drivers basically rub your ears and cause pain. I've never experienced that with previous headphones. If it wasn't for that I would give them 5 runs and highly recommend them but unfortunately I can't. If I could I would return them. You might get lucky and not run into the same problem, but for me it's an unlucky pass. Update: HyperX sent me a new set of earpads with thicker inner padding. This solved the problem and since then I have been able to use them happily for many hours. The rating has now been raised from 2 to 4 stars.
