I needed a compact NOAA radio for my grab and go bag. This little gem fits the bill as it stays in the kit unless you really need it. It has good reception, picking up NOAA channels as well as regular radio and also has a flashlight function. For the price you can certainly afford one for the car kit and one for at home. This particular model has no "active alerts" - meaning it won't alert you when a NOAA alert is issued - you have to listen. So your location and the nature of normal disasters can determine if this radio meets your needs. For example, if you live in a tornado area, you may need a more sophisticated model with automatic alerts. If you live in a hurricane zone where warnings are issued days in advance, this model should work. This will also be a great gift.
