On my old FreeNAS/TrueNAS server was already running SATA SSDs, so I wanted to improve its performance by increasing the storage capacity. So instead of buying larger SATA drives, I bought this and an NVMe drive, which made an even bigger difference than I expected. In addition, I boot the operating system from the 32GB mSATA drive that is also installed on this card, freeing up more space and cables. Sure, it still uses the SATA connector on the motherboard, but removing the power cable has greatly improved airflow. The NVMe mirror partner is on a different PCIe card as I don't need any other mSATA or m.2 SATA ports. If your computer has no m.2 slots or they are full, this is a great way to solve this problem.
