This device works exactly as it should and at a great price. I downloaded the app they suggested from Google Play but ended up with another free, ad-free app called Piston. Piston is digital rather than graphic, which I prefer, and tells you everything you need to know. There are much more expensive devices that do not provide more information. This unit doesn't do a few things (ABS/SRS) that you would have to pay a few hundred dollars to get in another unit. For that rare or unlikely need, you can hire a professional to do it, or maybe Autozone with their scanners has the option, and they do it for free. The beauty of this device is that in the event of a breakdown, it can be used at home or on the go if necessary. And it can help you keep the mechanics honest. You can download the full list of error code explanations and save them to a file for offline viewing on your smart device. Or you can download an app like OBD2 Code Guide and look up the error code. It also gives you possible reasons. I don't know how often the database is updated.
