We bought this product on 08/03 and haven't used it since (maybe 10 hours total recording). We took a camera to capture the first moments of our second daughter's life and that's when the camera started failing. That day we were able to reset it and get a few video moments. But the next time we turned on the camera, we got the same error message and couldn't reset it. The error message was cryptic - the code wasn't in the booklet that came with the camera (with other error codes) but I found it online. Combining the codes revealed an error that we had to fix, presumably because the battery in the device was not an infolithium battery (Sony's own battery) and should be replaced with a suitable battery. The problem was that the device had an infolithium battery and the code was displayed even when there was no battery in the device (when mains powered). I checked the internet and found that several people had the same problem with their cameras. I contacted Sony and got nowhere after talking to 6 people and 3 levels of management. They were incredibly evasive, gave conflicting information and ultimately didn't care whether or not I as a customer was a happy, loyal Sony customer. I have tried to explain that the issue is clearly a product defect and not a wear and tear issue and that Sony is responsible for correcting the defects (in fact a defect in this product has already been recalled (four years after the issue was reported). ) because - due to LCD failure). Sony is charging $225 to repair this camera, which is ridiculous given the price of the camera. All in all the camera was a failure and Sony is not a responsible manufacturer.
