Review on Topeak DeFender Mountain Bike Fender by Alex Mitra

Revainrating 2 out of 5

The missing link is the mounting arm

My DeFender has worked great for 2.5 years with light use. Then the plastic bracket connecting the fender to the seatpost broke off at a small adjustment (I didn't use much force; the plastic must have loosened over time). I contacted Topeak customer support and was told that this is not covered as it is not covered by a guarantee (fair enough) and that I can purchase a replacement part from their store. Unfortunately, the mounting arm is not listed in their parts store, leaving me with a useless fender unless I make my own mounting arm. As other users attest, the mounting arm is the weak link and Topeak continues to sell them unchanged. and not listing the part separately means they want to part me from another $20 for a product that should last more than a few years. I won't be buying any other product again and will have to look for another fender manufacturer - this has ruined my previously good opinion of Topeak. For example, if they made a hand out of aluminum, you would have a higher quality product.
