The color is much lighter than in the photo. It's closer to cherry than I'd like, but the black shoe polish should fix that. The brass buckle is darker than the picture, but that's okay. The quality looks better than some reviewers' photos. It looks like it will last at least ten years - I have another belt of the same size and quality and it is over 15 years old. Fits us the right size for me.
