The advertising of the product indicates that it’s designed and tested for a fire pit. A good majority of the ones sold today are the low profile Stainless steel "smokeless” ones. If you scroll down they state the heat source should be a minimum of 4” above the mat. I read in the ratings that people have used under the Solo and other stoves ( I recently purchased an East Oak ) and I have used the mat once so far, with no damage to decking or mat. Once I use it a few more times I’ll add to the ratings. Hopefully it will hold up under a more sustained fire. I just found it interesting that they market it for the fire pits, yet it doesn’t appear they were tested for the low profile newer smokeless versions. On my deck I have scrap PVC boards as a buffer on top of my decking, this mat, and then the East Oak fire pit. I don’t fully trust the mat just yet
