Review on Olympus DW 90 Digital Recorder Champagne by Ben Diesel

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good tape recorder, handy size

I have an Olympus analog tape recorder (L400) and use it as a dictaphone. I wouldn't trade it for a digital one (at least not yet), but I needed a pocket-sized digital voice recorder that I could use to take notes quickly. I found it in this device. First of all, the rest of the statements about the quality of the recording are correct for LQ (low): It costs practically nothing. If you have a high pitched voice (unlike mine), speak fairly loudly and clearly, you CAN use LQ, but I wouldn't rely on it. However, I use SP (default) for all my notes and it works great. I would use HQ (high) if I needed to record something from someone else, but SP is fine with you. The controls are fairly intuitive and you will quickly become familiar with this device. The microphone is a good size and picks up sound well, but I wouldn't use it for lectures, especially in a large auditorium. The small classroom is perhaps a different story. The device has a clock and a counter that records when you have given a message. It also has a hold button, so putting it in your pocket or purse won't accidentally trigger it and record what's going on in those deep dark places (okay). The device has three folders. I don't use folders as much as I thought I would, but I'm sure it will come with time. For example, you can store work materials in one folder, personal items in another and long-term thoughts in a third, for example, which you would like to have at hand but do not have to pay attention to in everyday life. Whatever one may say, the device is good and worthy. (I can't talk to the USB port and transfer data to the PC as I haven't used it. If/if I do I will update the review accordingly.)
