I connected it to my Raspberry Pi to power my external hard drives. I liked the idea of having switches on each port since I live on a boat and it gave me the ability to turn off things I didn't use often without having to unplug and hang around. The product just didn't last long, but it led me to believe it did. 6 months after I received it, one of my external drives started making a strange clicking noise. If I unplug the drive and plug it back in, it disappears for a while. I plugged the hub into my laptop for a day and the same thing happened. I thought that hard drive broke. I had another drive also connected to a hub that had no issues. So I bought a new drive. Moving 3TB of information between drives took a day, during which time my laptop was barely used. What does that have to do with a hub? Fast forward another 6 months. I started hearing clicks again. I had actually plugged in another drive a week earlier as I had accidentally erased something from the new drive that I needed. never mind I disconnect the old drive. The clicks continued. It was a new ride. Connected to a different port than the old one. I could hardly believe my bad luck. I plugged the hub back into my laptop and after a few hours I had the same problem and couldn't access the drive anymore. On a whim, I pulled out the hub and plugged the drive directly into my laptop, hoping I wouldn't lose all of my data. And then . no questions. More than a week. No click. You don't need to transfer anything. In fact, the hub itself was slowly dying. It cost me the best part of 2 days and $120. I bought another hub for 7 ports, without switches. Other brand. I haven't had any problems with the old or new drive in months. I don't know if the switches are causing problems or if it's the brand. Of course I have an extra ride which is fine now but it was 2 days of my life that I will never get back.
