I personally have an overkill rig for 1080P gaming on my main monitor, but also I can switch to my 4K HDR10+ Vizio at any time. Me, having an overkill for the Cat ethernet cord distances I'm using, anywhere between 3 feet, 30 feet, and 60 feet, still made me feel like the extra money to put into it was no big deal. I felt the same about my PC, and it still lasts doing anything today. If you're here to spend money for a home network in short distances, go ahead, but if you're doing it for a data server and need heavy bandwidth transfers, Cat8 is the way to go today. If you're doing it for distances greater than 300 feet+, Cat8 will minimize your interference over long distances and decrease the time it takes to get there, but at that point you should probably fiber up anyway. Fiber is still better, but who wants to hook up additional cards to your personal devices or have a motherboard that supports it? I suppose you can use an adapter, but my pages and everything already load instantly on Frontier Gig service, Cat8 and fiber to PC or device are both overkill on home networks. I'm all about the overkill, even though I'll never see those speeds the Cat8 provides anytime soon, are you ready to buy some overkill or will you give it some thought?I posted pictures of my ethernet setup and what devices I was using for the tests I posted, but I highly doubt Cat8 made a difference for short distances in testing compared to Cat5e or Cat6.
