Bought these for rough terrain. My husband and I drove different cars and wanted to find a way to communicate in heterogeneous service areas. Those walkie-talkies were just awful. If our cars weren't parked next to each other, we wouldn't be able to communicate. What if another car comes between us? No way. Battery life sucks and that's probably due to the LIGHT GREEN screen that doesn't have a dimming option. Green is blinding on unlit country roads. The sound quality is below average. Overland travel is stressful enough; add to the words "what?!" on a horrible walkie-talkie before exiting and the ride really sucks. I wish I could spend more on nicer walkie talkies to make the trip more comfortable. I can't imagine buying them and expecting them to work on something like a camping trip or, god forbid, during an emergency. Do not buy.
