Review on πŸ“¦ Mediasonic Raid USB C 3.1 4 Bay 3.5” SATA Hard Drive Enclosure: Power Delivery, 4K HDMI, USB Hub & SDXC Reader – All-in-One USB Type C USB 3.1 Gen 2 10Gbps (HFR7-SU31CD) by Zachary Jackson

Very functional and intuitive to use.

Overview: As far as hard drive cases go, this is by far the most feature rich I've seen. No, it's not a NAS, but it shouldn't be either. You can still access your drives online through Windows. USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type C is very fast. The transfer speed easily exceeds SATA. Other thoughts: Equal amounts of metal and plastic are used. The case itself doesn't look thin. Fan noise is very quiet compared to other multi-drive cases. The hard drives themselves make more noise when accessed. In addition, Mediasonic makes good use of rubber dampers. This is handy for desktop in terms of noise. The indicator LEDs for each drive are easy to read and not too bright. If you use SD cards, you know how useful it is not to have to deal with adapter dongles. The only downside to a multi-disk rig running through a single chassis is the built-in controller. I've found that if I access the device while a large file is being transferred, the connection may drop and the transfer may stall. Be careful when approaching the limit of a connection/device. Verdict: While this hub-style case is a bit more expensive than similar offerings from Mediasonic, this particular model tries to mix in common issues with "single-port" Type-C machines. . Both my laptop and desktop have only one Gen 2 Type-C port. Using that single port for anything other than a docking station would be pointless. These days, feature-packed Type-C hubs tend to be overpriced and, shockingly, come without a detachable Type-C cable. Not only is it always too short, if you damage the cable, it will burn up your whole expensive docking station. Aside from the cable being too short, if I wanted to use it for my desktop, I'd have to buy an extension cable, which creates additional issues like connection reliability. Mediasonic just solved 10 issues at once; with a list of other amenities that I have not mentioned in this review. If the price is an issue, please feel free to find a better solution. I don't think you will.
