When knitting small things in the round I prefer short bamboo needles and often cheap ones that are not very smooth. This is perfect, especially if you're doing something like a top-down hat and you have that spiky sea urchin made of needles going in all directions. I like the short ones to keep the mess at bay and it's actually handy that they're bamboo and unvarnished to keep the needles from slipping out. Even my Clover Takumis were slippery (they're varnished). For less than the price of a good set of 2, I could get all these needle sizes, which are actually more comfortable because they aren't slippery. But: they are a bit like toothpicks and you don't want to use them with thin yarn. (I work with cotton now.) It's also a good range of sizes: 2.0mm, 2.25mm, 2.5mm, 2.75mm, 3.0mm, 3.25mm, 3.5 mm, 3.75mm, 4.0mm, 4.5mm and 5.0mm. Fits US sizes 0, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. Metric sizes are stamped on needles. Exactly what I wanted and at an unbeatable price. .
