With the Cachevault add-on ($90+), CrystalDiskMark says six RAID6 x2 TB 7200 rpm arrays are faster when sequentially writing with several threads than my new WD SSDs Black Gen3. multithreaded sequence. Reads are comparable to 960 EVO Gen3 NVMe. single-threaded seq. Read/Write was less impressive but still decent, around 1GB/s read and 500MB/s write. Random read/write performance was as poor as one would expect from disks due to seek time limitations. According to other reviewers who mention thermal performance, the chip reports a normal operating temperature of around 70C in standby mode. Just re-sticking with Noctua didn't seem to make a difference, so I'd say the included thermal pad is probably sufficient. Installing a 40mm, 5,000RPM fan towards the heatsink lowered the idle temperature to 37C. The Megaraid software leaves a lot to be desired, but it works. A cost-effective solution for a fast eight-disk array. Make sure you have the Cachevault addon or it's just a quick meal.
