While heavy absorbent stone stands are a great idea, there are a few things that spoil the idea. First, they are colored, which prevents water from penetrating the absorbent rock. Second, they are flat. I don't know how many times I've picked up my drink and the coaster drove halfway to me and, Murphy's Law, fell under something and rolled under. Or they fall on a hard surface and break. To improve absorption and surface tension, immerse in a very mild soapy water solution. Leave to act then allow to dry or leave slightly damp. Don't rinse them out. We need some soap to break this tension. They will work much better.
