I have about 30 dress shirts and I have found the product made to add more space and comfort to the rail but not as much very where the shirts were. There's no avoiding the thickness of shirts and hangers - let's face it, when using this product you don't have 6 inches to pull it out and hang it on a rail at both ends. I ended up hanging shirts staggered on either side of the hanger so the hangers don't make a waterfall curve out of this piece. Another mistake is that you're wasting all the space you had underneath your clothes. Well, and if you have a shoe rack , a small drawer or drawers, then this product is not for you. The height is approximately 9-10" below the bottom of the shirts hanging on the original hanger - the length of the shelf with the hook plus approximately 1" for the metal arm hanging from the rail.
