How do you work this thing!?

I can't figure out for the life of me how you put this thing on. I planned on buying this one to see how I like it, and then purchasing 5 in different sizes OF I liked the results. I've flipped it every way possible and it doesn't work on my love seat. It's not because the couch is too big (as the cover is much larger than the couch). I've had this item for a few months now just sitting in a box unable to use. Help!
