Do not use to transfer audio cassettes to a PC.

We bought it to copy old tapes to the PC. Dissatisfied with the $20 mp3-oriented items, we were delighted with the reviews and bought it, based in part on the reviews and lack of negative reviews of the cassette player, with the belief that it would serve well for cassette archiving in the future and records would afford. Now we wish we had just gone to the thrift store to buy an old cassette player. When archiving tapes, we wanted to get the recordings from the tape as WAV files before converting them to mp3, so we didn't want to save directly to a flash drive. Based on our limited experience with small $20 devices, we assumed this device would at least match the other options. Shame on us we didn't investigate this further, it was a reckless purchase built on trust based on Jensen's name. The radio works, radio and CD player have not been tried. So this is a cassette player review. The only output ports are RCA jacks and a headset jack. We were expecting USB, so obviously we didn't explore it enough. RCA to computer doesn't work without an adapter and although we have an RCA to USB that used to be used to transfer VHS tapes to a computer, no sound was detected from this Jensen player. We ended up using a lead to connect the headphone jack to the computer's microphone input. It works, but not elegantly, and our laptop didn't have a microphone jack, so it's plugged into the PC. More important, however, is the lack of control over the cassette player. You have three options: Play, FF and Stop. No reversing, rewinding or recording. or automatic switching to side B. This also does not work via the remote control. With 300 tapes to get wav on a PC, we plan a trip to a thrift store for an old tape recorder that has newer technology or at least a rewind button. We're more ashamed of this purchase because we didn't research it better. And while we admit we were looking for cheap ones and decided to buy this one because we might one day need to archive records, we regret the purchase. If we had kept the box we would have tried to bring it back to something with a USB output and a rewind button. To be honest the radio seems to work, we haven't tried CDs or vinyl yet and we can't speak. on the quality of the speakers. If you want to transfer an audio cassette, look further. For mp3, just grab the cheap $20 options. We'll be looking at thrift stores for something to rewind.
