Model 306W is my favorite heavy duty machine (I have 10 machines). Original 206x13 needles are no longer available for this machine. They are smaller in diameter, 1mm longer and don't have a flat surface so the slot has to be pushed forward but the machine doesn't care. It performs just as well, even with hard work, as the original 206x13s. These needles are fantastic. I've attached a photo of the test run. #16 needles with v69 sail yarn and 2 to 10 layers of 6.4 oz sail fabric (probably the most difficult fabric to sew). I tried the inexpensive Singer ($2732, $100 at WalMart), the Pfaff 1222E (refurbished on Ebay for $850) and the Singer 306W, my favorite car (free, someone threw it away). The only valid complaint about the 306 is that they no longer make needles for it (I bought the last 16 206 x 13 Schmetz needles in Australia probably a year ago). Further research found several blogs (in Australia) where several people said that DBx1 needles work in the 306W. YES YOU DO. PERFECT.
