Review on Utooby Rechargeable Easy Walkie Talkie with 12X1000Mah Battery Ideal for Thanksgiving Gathering by John Carter

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Compact kids walkie talkie with rechargeable batteries, good range, durable but with some glitches

The sound quality of the walkie talkie is good, not as good as my cell phone but for fifteen bucks the handset it is better than expected. We tried using phones at about 2,000 feet in a large city park and the voice sounded about the same at 50 feet. I think we could try to use it in the amusement park but we haven't had the opportunity so I can't speak from that distance. You don't have to buy anything, it's a complete kit. Batteries can be charged in the phone, no need to remove them and put them in a separate charger, which is convenient. The package includes a cable and charger that allows you to charge three phones at the same time, and any additional phones can be charged using a standard micro USB cable. The battery lasts about 6 hours with lots of chatter between kids, the mileage depends on how much they talk and how loud the volume settings are. They had fun using walkie talkies and I can see this being useful at home or when playing outside as they tend to have more contact with each other. The phone's lock feature is a bit buggy and can cause the phone to become unresponsive to button presses. For my two youngest children I had to set up a lock feature so they couldn't change the channels and other settings on the phone so they could talk to each other. With the lock feature enabled and VOX (voice call) enabled, the phones would not unlock after using the phones for some time (20 minutes I think). The VOX function still worked and they were able to speak into the handset, but to unlock the handset I had to remove the batteries and wait 10 or 15 seconds and then put the batteries back in to reset the unit and then unlock the handset. I removed an asterisk because it happened on all phones and wasn't limited to just one device, so it's probably a bug in their device software.

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Some bugs
