If desired, the bell can be easily removed. However, I would not recommend them for cats. Cats need detachable collars for their safety as they are climbers. I have 3 street cats and I have to change their collars about twice a year. Yes, constantly changing things is annoying, but cat safety is more important. However, I think I accidentally ordered the wrong set through mobile shopping, which is why I didn't take that into account in my review. Since I can't use them I will donate them to the local dog shelter.
