Review on Food Grade Mold Making Silicone Rubber - Smooth-Sil 940 Trial Unit by Linda Diaz

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Made an awesome cake pan using a mold from my 3D printer!

This material is excellent. My wife and I used it to give a friend a gift who wanted a 20-sided cube cake. The plan was to make a half silicone mold, bake two semi-circular cakes with the mold and assemble them with frosting. First I found an STL file with a 20-sided polygon (icosahedron) on the internet. Then I halved it with FreeCAD and added the box and then printed the half mold plus box out of PLA on my 3D printer (Prusa I3 MK3). I coated the plastic model with food safe mold release agent and applied four coats of Smooth-Sil silicone with a brush. I added layers using the technique see the tutorial video. which had to wait about 90 minutes between coats until the previous coat was tacky but no longer left wet silicone on my glove when touched. After waiting 24 hours for the mold to fully set, baking was easy and the mold was flexible enough to easily separate the cake, although the model had a small edge. This cake will be a great gift. Thank you smoothly! that the model had a small lead. This cake will be a great gift. Thank you smoothly! that the model had a small lead. This cake will be a great gift. Thank you smoothly!
