I have a GM Passkey 3 with a passive RF transponder built into the black plastic head of the key, so I bought the Titanium Extended model. : The packaging was a yellow padded envelope with small ziplock bags containing all the small parts. I was a bit disappointed to see that the titanium models had the same scratching issues as the aluminum models reported in the reviews. I agree that when something is bought new at retail it shouldn't look like someone's already tried it, with light scratches on the platters and head marks in the grooves of the screw heads where a screwdriver or a quarter is US dollars . used to tighten screws. The scratches were not manufacturing scratches as some of them were on the inside of the plates and had a radius to match the key placed on the post on the post. I believe like other reviewers I received a used unit and due to the frequency of reviews the seller is likely to recycle returned units as new. For a premium product at premium prices in America in 2015, this is below average. Assembly: The video instructions on the website were good and I was able to get the gasket/key combination in 10 minutes and 3 tries for a nice compact package. A small O-ring at the head of each screw provides friction to prevent the assembly from breaking from use and vibration. Time will tell how well it works and if blue thread lock needs to be applied to the threads. Design: I bought a 2-10 key pad which means it comes with 2 stacking set screws which are very well made. All parts are very well processed, without burrs and roughness. Very precise, close fitting, straight and neat. The workmanship is definitely high for this product; I would say the quality control and threading standards are similar to a $1,000+ Swiss watch; very good. However, titanium plates on the production standard are lower. The edges are finished and deburred, but the edges show gross tool marks that would not be seen on a standard $15 Victorinox Swiss Army Knife. So after stamping, they probably put the plates in a ceramic material polisher, but don't go through the extra step of sanding the long inner concave edges smooth. The convex ends of the inserts near the screw posts appear to be ground and hand finished as the ends show no machining marks with a smoother finish. Spacers are made of black composite material. Not metal, nylon, or pure plastic, but appears to be a composite plastic matrix - maybe Delrin. They seem to protect the plastic keys and provide a comfortable friction when moving. Size: The package includes enough spacers for 10 keys, but the stands are not tall enough for 5 standard metal keys per stand. You can get a maximum of 4 metal keys per post if you use the spacers correctly. If you don't use spacers you might be able to squeeze 5 keys together, but then the end keys will scratch the sides. A thick plastic head GM car key stretches 2.5 to 3 keys wide (depending on the size of the end or center of the key). These width specifications and recommended widths are not provided on the website. Perhaps this information can be used by others to avoid purchasing errors. Overall Impression and Function: Works well. This saves me the keychain mess I had. I'd say it's about 30% more expensive for a key solution, but I can't design, test, find parts and build it for a one-time cost. Well done KeySmart. It's not ideal as it has nothing to do with a small flashlight, knife, or car key. There's a small key loop extender to attach your car keychain to, but where's the elegance in that? I really like it and would recommend it to the optimistic-obsessed perfectionist geek or urban minimalist metrosexual. It's a nice gift (for a geek who might appreciate it) and a pleasure to own. A bit of functional luxury in your pocket.
