I bought it to check the correct size of copper conductors using the American wire gauge system - AWG. The decimal scale is accurate, but the gauge dimensions are closer to the British Standard Wire System - SWG. Or maybe something else made out of steel and piano wire. Example: The tool matches "12" to .109". The engineering toolbox says 12 AWG is 0.0808.β What system does "12" correspond to on the instrument? I have no idea, but it's definitely not an AWG.
