I bought this winch in August, popped it into the mid-width LOD bumper on my JKU and gave it a ride. Personally I didn't have to use it to get free, mainly because I don't particularly like having the axle deep in the mud with the doors open, but that's just my opinion. I used it to free some friends and it did an excellent job. In total I have used this winch probably 5 times with a weight of more than 2 tons (not counting the resistance of the circumstances) and it has worked perfectly every time. Additive. The winch has protection class IP68. Synthetic cord is amazing. The speed is great - not too slow and not so fast that you can't control it. The winch looks good. price for a winch with these characteristics and this weight class. Like some other reviewers, I couldn't use the center mounts for the solenoid, they just didn't fit properly, so I used the offset mounts provided instead. It's fine as far as I know, but if it's important to you, keep it in mind. You will hear a lot of nonsense about the Smittybilt and many people will say that WARN is the only winch worth using. I don't use my winch every day and I don't have any money. Spending 1/3 the cost of WARN for a winch that does the same made sense to me. Just for fun, one of my rescuers was a friend of mine whose WARN winch broke trying to fix it myself. Nobody makes a 100% perfect winch ;)*** EDIT: NOVEMBER 25, 2018 - 3 years later the winch is still on the jeep and still chugging. I'll probably have to replace the plastic rope sooner or later, but that was to be expected. The wireless decided it didn't want to work anymore, but that's fine because it's interfering with my radios anyway, so we end up running on wired. We ride almost every weekend from April to November, and every time I called on this winch, it would pull me out, remove trees from the trail, pull friends, put jeeps back on wheels. I am very happy with the money I spent on this winch and would do it again.
