Review on πŸŽ™οΈ Comica BoomX-D2 2.4G Wireless Lavalier Lapel Microphone System for DSLR Cameras, Camcorders, iPhone, Android & More by Clinton Delgado

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Highly recommended, the best dual transmitter miniature wireless microphone kit on the market

The first wave of ultra miniature wireless microphone kits came from RODE with their Wireless GO, and the Comica BoomX-D kits are based on this amazing Australian innovation. , which saves more money when adding features, especially in this bundle with an additional transmitter to simultaneously capture two wireless sources fed to a receiver for stereo recording (few GOs can't): the left channel gets a separate transmitter and the right channel gets another. When you're in an editing program, it's very easy to make the left channel a separate mono track and the right channel its own mono track for independent volume control and subsequent editing. I like that all three built-in lithium batteries are charged. via USB-C connections (not the old Micro-USB). You can even bus power devices while they are running. The spring clip on the back of the receiver can also be used as a hot shoe mount as it has a standard width and thickness and the spring loading makes it extra secure to the camera. Compared to the GO, these transmitters are also equipped with wired lavalier microphones, adding the possibility for a better and closer sound that is hidden. And instead of screw connectors like Comica's RF kits (which can wear out over time and wires can fail), Comica has added a clever new "hook insert" system that keeps the connectors in place just enough for peace of mind but also pops out if the wire snags too hard. Aside from those wired mics, I still love the "run and shoot" option for quickly connecting a device to a speaker on the go without the need for any wiring. The transmitters' internal mics sound good - not as good as the GO, but decent enough when needed. New York, which is extremely congested. I look forward to devices that will soon be more reliable with Wi-Fi 6, but for now the technology works reasonably well in most environments. When recording wirelessly you always want to have a wired backup plan - and the cool thing about it is that you can just plug any of the included lav mics directly into the camera when you need or want them. I also appreciate colorful displays: not only because they look nice and bright, but also because you can clearly see individual features at a glance (among so many other worries). You can get instant confirmation of audio activity and levels no matter where you are, from the meters on the transmitters to the receiver, where you can adjust each volume level separately from that baseline. The only negative I could find is that the battery level icon doesn't change when you're charging any of the three units, or powering them while they're running: you don't see any confirmation that it's charging. I have never experienced such a defect with any other product. I hope that one day this can be fixed with the firmware. One final bonus that's easy to overlook is that the Comica includes a damping cable (usually $30 or so extra) marked with an orange connector. This is important to ensure compatibility between specific microphone connections and line level connections (both directions). Some cameras and other products vary wildly in this impedance level, so one cable can really get you out of the bind.
