As previously mentioned, for added protection and ease of installation, purchase separate conduit (3/8" or 1/2") for the cables. Be sure to tape the wires at the ends of the line to hold everything together. Now ground the device. In years past (15-20 years) these devices were grounded by the wiring harness. But the only source of grounding for this device is a threaded tap in the vehicle chassis. Normally I would say that this is normal and I even connected this device in this way. First. Then I noticed that the device stopped working spontaneously for no apparent reason. That's when I remembered from a previous Toyota P-up that they are notoriously badly grounded at the rear of the car. Especially the old and rusty p-up. The simple fix was to find a ground wire in the wiring harness and connect that to the ground wire on the unit. Trailer lighting is now stable. I have no idea why they just don't come here. Much luck.
