I bought this bed for my senior Golden Retriever that was having hip issues and rubbing her elbows raw laying on her old bed. We have solid wood floors and she weighed about 90 pounds. It was tough for her to get up off the floor because she would slip on your wood floor. We put down area rugs for her to lay on and for traction, but she started getting blisters and rubbing her elbows raw on the carpet. She was nearing the end of her life and I wanted to make sure she was comfortable. Most large dog beds aren't large enough for the dog to stretch out. Either their head or back feet hang off the edges. This bed is huge! My girl was able to lay across it and the entire body could lay on the bed. In her final days, she couldn't get up without assistance. Being that she was very social and needed to be near me, I began laying in the bed with her spending as much time as I could with her. We were both comfortable. I would lay with her for up to 4 hours some days and I am not small by any measurement. I know she was much more comfortable because she was not whimpering anymore when she would move or turn over in the bed, and this was after only 24 hours.
