I use this as a second step in my entire home filtration system. The first stage is a larger filter for sediments from 30 to 5 microns. Then it depends on this filter for the final filtering. I have a cistern that collects water from the roof and I supplement it with the water supply. Immediately after changing both filters, our water was much "softer" in the sense that the soap foamed better and was much clearer. I'm sure it's partly due to the settling phase, but I've previously used a 5 micron carbon block filter instead of a 1 micron filter and that seems to work better. I didn't notice any impact on water flow or pressure either, so that's good too.
